Networking on the Fayetteville Square

Linda Ralston (City of Fayetteville employee) with Carolyn Hoppe (QLA Director)

Ms. Ralston is working with the City of Fayetteville, AR to put together a coalition of food bank stations around the area to collect food staples and other personal care items. Our conversation also included a movement to develop a local "currency" system based on a $10.00 value. The goal of the "currency" is to facilitate the process of consumers purchasing services with a sort of bartering system between business firms and individuals--the system is designed to boost the local economy despite the current downturn (see sign between Hoppe and Ralston). Ralston reported that the economic model for local "currency" was developed by Paul Glover of Ithaca, NY. http://www.paulglover.org/

Garden Party Reminder: Do you have an item for our Silent Auction?

Garden Party Reminder

Just a reminder that our Garden Party (Quality Life Assoc.) is coming up on Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. and we would love to have you celebrate the day with us! We have the music planned, the food selected and we are working on having a GREAT Silent Auction. (Place: The Village At Scull Creek Apartment Complex: 2619 N. Quality LN; one block south of Drake Ave. off of Gregg Ave.; we have an advertising sign near the driveway entrance: pink flower with green stem and black lettering).

Because of the "interesting" economy that we are all experiencing, we are faced with the economic reality that this year all of the funds generated by the Garden Party will come from our Silent Auction sales. Therefore we would like to ask you to consider the following: Would you take a second look around to see if you have some items that you can donate to make our Action a really great success! It would be a shame to have someone stroll through our Silent Auction and say, "Oh, my! I wish that I had thought of donating that "whatever" that's sitting in the back bedroom, ...closet...garage. Would you take a peek, and see if you could find a "treasure" sitting at your house that needs a new home? We will be glad to come and pick your items up. Just give us a call at 479-571-4455.

Thank you and again, hope to see you at the Garden Party!

Artwork to auction at Garden Party on June 13th

Artists Phebe Lewis and Rhonda Tucker along with their mentors, Angie Peters (program director) and Lyne Ledbetter (instructor) of Arkansas Support Network (Foundations Program). Lewis and Tucker display two of the art pieces that will be sold at the silent auction at our annual Garden Party event, June 13, 2009. The artists earn a portion of the proceeds generated from art sales. They look forward to displaying their creations and are excited to have an upcoming show. There should be a collection of unique and original pieces of art available for purchase through the silent auction at the fundraiser event (see party invitation below).
