Three Month Deconstruction Project Almost Complete

Quality Life Associates wishes to thank Habitat for Humanity and for the leadership of Wendi Jones (Habitat Executive Director of Washington County) and Mike Jones (Deconstruction Foreman), and Joshua Stone, Pictured above (Volunteer Coordinator and On-site Foreman). Well Done!

The University of Arkansas Student Chapter of Habitat for Humanity were working Saturday to complete the last of the demolition project; Quality Life donated the house to Habitat; the deconstruction project which began on August 28, 2009 is expected to be completely finished by the end of the Thanksgiving weekend. All of the re-usable components removed from the house have been recycled or sold in the local Habitat Thrift Store.

Clear Creek Watershed Project

Jane Mitchell (QLA Accountant) and John Pennington (County Extension Agent) in photograph, standing on the foot bridge of Scull Creek near the trail and the Scull Creek Village Apartments. Mr. Pennington came out and visited with the staff at QLA today to discuss a partnership venture with QLA and the Clear Creek Conservation to protect waterways like Scull Creek. Students from the University of Arkansas have cleared invasive brush (Kudzu and Ragweed) from the creek beds near the foot bridge and have plans to plant native plants in place of the weeds that will act as a natural buffer to prevent buildup of stream pollutants and continued erosion of the "Reparian Zone."

October Potluck Activities

We had a great time at the October Scull Creek Potluck
Monday, October 26th
sponsored by Quality Life Associates!
See photos below.

There were lots of costumes seen at the event. Our menu consisted of Sloppy Joes (made with beef brisket mix from Sams) and buns, salads, and desserts.

During the potluck meal we listened to old time favorites of Halloween music. The pumpkin pinata was a hit with the kids. Everyone received candy that wanted some.

Door prizes were given away by drawing names. We gave away the Halloween garland (see photo below) made from colored used/outdated computer discs and Halloween graphics downloaded from internet and glued on; curling ribbon attached the discs together. Other door prizes included a glowing spider, a florescent pumpkin necklace, a lighted pumpkin, and a fall/harvest candle.
